Highlights from the 2026 Bioresources Alliance Symposium
The 20th annual California Bioresources Alliance Symposium brought together leaders from across the state and around the world on March 11–12 at the UC Davis Aggie Square Innovation Campus. This event continues to serve as a key forum for collaboration, innovation, and forward-thinking solutions in California’s growing bioeconomy. Hosted by the UC Davis Grand Challenges in partnership with a diverse Steering Committee including regulators, scientists, innovators, nonprofit advocates, and CASA, the symposium explored how California can better align and leverage its vast bioresources. CASA was proud to play an active role in shaping this year’s event, with our Director of Renewable Resources, Maile Lono-Batura, both in attendance and helping to organize the program.

Founded with contributions from leaders such as Lauren Fondahl, the symposium aims to identify intersections and alignment across California’s many bioresources. Sessions covered topics ranging from food upcycling and waste valorization to bioprocessing, biomass conversion, compost, and biosolids. California Forward led a Bioeconomy Roadmap interactive session to generate discussion and ideas supporting a regions-up approach to circular systems.

The second day was held virtually and highlighted international bioeconomy programs in the European Union, Ireland, Germany, and Denmark, concluding with a panel on infrastructure needs, gaps, and financing to build a robust bioeconomy.

As the sector continues to evolve, gatherings like this symposium play a vital role in fostering collaboration and accelerating progress, ensuring California remains at the forefront of sustainable resource management.
