Effective October 1 – California Direct Potable Reuse Regulations
After years of scientific and public health research, extensive regulatory development, and a strict water quality monitoring framework, the state has provided a safe and proven potable reuse option to water agencies for source water alternatives, further ensuring long-term water reliability. The Direct Potable Reuse (DPR) regulations, adopted unanimously in December 2023 by the State Water Resources Control Board (Water Board), are extremely protective of public health and are among the most rigorous potable reuse regulations in the nation. The regulations became effective October 1, 2024. A summary of some of the major provisions of the DPR regulations can be found here.

Join the Social Media Chain for Imagine a Day Without Water
We are excited to invite you to participate in a social media chain for the upcoming Imagine a Day Without Water campaign on October 17th. This year’s theme is “What’s Your Drop in the Bucket?”, and the U.S. Water Alliance has provided ready-to-use templates for agencies.
The campaign format is simple: each participating agency will post their template, accompanied by the question “What’s your drop in the bucket? @NextAgency”, passing the chain along. If you are interested in joining this initiative, please email Alyssa Downs with the contact information for yourself or your social media manager by Wednesday, October 9. We look forward to your participation!
NACWA Emerging Leader Training Program
Looking to elevate your career and broaden your network in the industry? Enroll for NACWA’s Emerging Leader Training by October 21 to learn leadership best practices tailored specifically for the water sector. The emerging leader training is a multi-month experience comprised of in-person and virtual interactions. The program operates on a cohort model, with several utilities selecting a few participants to form a class of 15-20 people. Several cohorts from around the country experience the program at the same time, presenting opportunities for water sector collaboration regionally and nationally. Wiley’s Work of Leaders is used as the framework for a curriculum that moves through four modules (discovering self, crafting a vision, building alignment, championing execution) and the program incorporates a variety of interactions including peer-to-peer networking, mentors, speakers, and tours. The program concludes by identifying specific strategies for applying leadership learning in the workplace. Learn more at https://bit.ly/4evZzYw.
